Quintet of Eagles celebrate National Signing Day

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 19, 2016) – Five Tallahassee Community College student-athletes were recognized on Tuesday during the Eagles' annual Spring Signing Day Ceremony.

With teammates and coaches gathered inside the Bill Hebrock Eagledome, softball standout Alexandra Cook, baseball's Zach Featherstone and Rion Murrah and men's basketball's Stavian Allen and Rashad Lewis announced where they will spend the next two years of their academic and athletic careers.

Cook, a native of Delta, British Columbia, Canada, announced she will sign with Presbyterian College.

Cook, a southpaw pitcher, has been a mainstay in the Eagles' rotation the past two seasons, compiling a career record of 19-11. As a freshman, she was recognized as NJCAA Region 8 and NJCAA Division I Softball Pitcher of the Week in February 2015 en route to first-team All-Panhandle Conference honors.

Academically, Cook earned all-academic honors by both the Panhandle Conference and Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) in 2015 and is on track to repeat those honors this season.

Presbyterian, a member of the Big South Conference, is located in Clinton, S.C.

Featherstone, a native of Charlotte, N.C., signed with his hometown University of North Carolina at Charlotte 49ers.

The second-year outfielder transferred to Tallahassee prior to the start of the 2015 season after initially enrolling at North Carolina State University. Through 49 games in 2016, he is batting .352 with 10 home runs and 46 RBIs and has career numbers of .323/14/75.

In 2015, Featherstone earned all-academic honors by both the Panhandle Conference and FCSAA.

Charlotte competes as a member of Conference-USA.

Murrah, a native of Bainbridge, Ga., signed with High Point University.

A right-handed pitcher, Murrah has been credited with seven wins and three saves over the past two seasons while appearing in 34 games.

Academically, he was recognized by both the Panhandle Conference and FCSAA in 2015.

Located in High Point, N.C., the Panthers compete in the Big South Conference.

Allen, a native of Cary, N.C., signed with Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference member Norfolk State University.

Listed as a forward, Allen also saw time at center during his two years with the Eagles, in which he appeared in 60 games. For his career, he averaged 5.3 points and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 51.6 percent from the floor.

Allen has been an honor roll student while enrolled at TCC.

Norfolk State is located in Norfolk, Va.

Lewis, a native of Valdosta, Ga., by way of Brooklyn, N.Y., will return to the Peach State and play for the Mercer University Bears.

Lewis transferred to Tallahassee after playing his freshman season at the University of South Carolina-Aiken. In 33 games, he averaged 11.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.9 assists while knocking down 42.0 percent of his three-point attempts and shooting 81.8 percent from the free throw line.

Lewis' 105 made three-pointers tied for sixth-best in the country, and he broke a 25-year old record with 17 made field goals from long distance during the Eagles' run to the FCSAA Championship Game last month, earning a spot on the all-tournament team.

He was named Second-team All-Panhandle Conference by the league coaches and was an honorable mention pick by the PC media.

Mercer, located in Macon, Ga., is a member of the Southern Conference.

Today's signees join men's basketball standout Daishon Smith, who signed with Wichita State University in November.
