TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (July 24, 2019) —Tallahassee Community College released its 2019-20 men's and women's basketball schedules on Wednesday, exactly 100 days out from the season openers on Friday, November 1.
The Eagle men will open with two games in Niceville, Fla., at the Northwest Florida State Tip-Off Classic – the season opener vs. Florida State College at Jacksonville on November 1 followed by a date with Motlow (Tenn.) State Community College the following day.
The Eagles will then participate in the Chipola College Classic against Enterprise (Ala.) State Community College and Spartanburg (S.C.) Methodist College on November 8 and 9, respectively, before playing their home opener against Andrew (Ga.) College on November 11.
The Eagle women, however, will tip things off with a three-game homestand beginning with the season opener against Daytona State College on November 1. Following a six-day layoff, Tallahassee will host Palm Beach State College and Florida State College at Jacksonville on November 8 and 9, respectively.
Following a three-game road trip, which includes their own trip to Niceville, Fla., for a two-day classic, the women will return home to co-host the Courtyard Downtown/Capital Classic with the Eagle men, November 21-23. The Eagle women will host the College of Central Florida in the only game scheduled for day one. Four games will dot the schedule on day two followed by three more on day three. The men will host Georgia Highlands College and East Georgia State College while the women's second opponent has yet to be determined.
Thanksgiving week will bring stiff challenges for both squads. The Eagle men will head to Pensacola, Fla., for games against Lamar (Texas) State College-Port Arthur and a pair of 2019 NJCAA Tournament teams – Trinity Valley (Texas) Community College and Odessa (Texas) College. Meanwhile, the Eagle women's lone game during the week will be at Jones (Miss.) College, who participated in the women's national tournament last season.
On the women's schedule, the month of December is highlighted by two classics – the Florida College's Women's Basketball Shootout (December 6-7), back in Niceville, Fla., where they'll face off against Miami Dade College and Hillsborough Community College, and the Pensacola State College Classic against Central Florida and Bossier Parish (La.) Community College.
Similarly, the December men's schedule features the Florida College's Men's Basketball Shootout (December 14-15) and the annual Tallahassee Democrat Holiday Classic (December 28-29) where the Eagles will meet Monroe (N.Y.) College and Gordon (Ga.) State College.
Both the men and women's 12-game Panhandle Conference schedule will kick off January 4 with a home date against Chipola College, the first of two visits from the arch-rival Indians. Tallahassee will also host Pensacola State twice while Northwest Florida State and Gulf Coast State will visit the Bill Hebrock Eagledome once apiece.
"Our staff and players are ecstatic to take on the toughest non-conference schedule in the country," said first-year men's coach Zach Settembre. "We will have a great feel for where we stand after an extremely challenging slate in November facing traditional powers Georgia Highlands, Trinity Valley, Odessa, and Lamar State-Port Arthur. Our non-conference schedule affords us the opportunity to head into the Florida Shootout with great momentum and be well-prepared for Panhandle play.
"Our conference is shaping up to be the deepest league in America with five-time defending conference champion Northwest Florida State reloading, Chipola having strong returners, Pensacola State adding to their strong squad, and Phil Gaffney working hard to bring Gulf Coast State back to prominence. If we want to be the best, we have to beat the best. We are prepared for the task of taking on our loaded schedule and can't wait until November to showcase the hard work our staff and student-athletes have put in during the offseason."
The top two teams in the Panhandle Conference will advance to the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA State Tournament, which will take place March 4-7 in Niceville, Fla.
