Eagles close the gap on No. 1 in FCSAA Softball Coaches’ Poll

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 9, 2014) – Tallahassee Community College remained No. 2 in the FCSAA Softball Coaches’ Poll, released on Tuesday, but the Eagles gained significant ground on No. 1 Indian River State College in this week’s rankings. 

Tallahassee, who had won 11 straight Panhandle Conference games before falling to Northwest Florida State College on Tuesday evening, picked up 10 first-place votes and 214 total points in the voting, just six points behind Indian River State. 

The Eagles also separated themselves from No. 3 Polk State College, who received 172 points in the voting. 

The top six teams in the poll remained intact from last week – Indian River State, Tallahassee, Polk State, College of Central Florida, Daytona State College and Santa Fe College. 

Miami Dade College and Northwest Florida State moved up one spot to No. 7 and No. 8, respectively, while Chipola College slipped two spots to No. 9. 

State College of Florida remained No. 10. 

In the FCSAA Baseball Coaches’ Poll, Tallahassee slid two spots from No. 5 to No. 7. 

Gulf Coast State College jumped previous No. 1 Chipola to take over the top spot in the poll. Chipola is ranked No. 2. 

St. Johns River State College and Polk State remained No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, while Miami Dade College jumped five spots to No. 5. 

Central Florida leads the second half of the poll, followed by Tallahassee, Hillsborough Community College, Seminole State College and Northwest Florida State. 

Hillsborough and Seminole State are new to this week’s rankings, bumping St. Petersburg College and Eastern Florida State College from the top ten.
