Eagle men slip to No. 2, women hold at No. 3 in FCSAA Basketball Coaches’ Polls

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 3, 2014) – An 84-76 loss to NJCAA No. 10 Southwest Tennessee Community College on Thanksgiving day knocked Tallahassee Community College out of the top spot and down a notch to No. 2 in the latest Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll, released on Tuesday.

Tuesday ended a three-week stay at No. 1 for Tallahassee (9-1), who traded spots in the poll with previous No. 2 Northwest Florida State College. Despite the loss and subsequent one-spot drop, the Eagles still received two first-place votes and 167 total points in the voting to finish comfortably ahead of No. 3 Eastern Florida State College.

Broward College jumped two spots to No. 4, followed by St. Petersburg College, the College of Central Florida, Miami Dade College, Palm Beach State College, Pensacola State College and Daytona State College.

Meanwhile, Tallahassee maintained its No. 3 ranking in the FCSAA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll

In fact, the top eight stayed intact, led by a trio of Panhandle Conference schools. Chipola College and Northwest Florida State sit 1-2, respectively, ahead of Tallahassee.

Florida State College at Jacksonville is ranked fourth followed by Gulf Coast State College, Daytona State, Central Florida, Miami Dade, Eastern Florida State and Santa Fe College.

The Eagle women, also 9-1, hosted the Capital Courtyard Classic during Thanksgiving week and went a perfect 3-0, capped by a 46-28 win over NJCAA No. 13 Walters (Tenn.) State Community College. The 28 points allowed established a new single-game record for Tallahassee.

The next FCSAA Basketball Coaches’ Polls will be released December 9.
