No. 2 and holding for TCC Softball; the #BirdGang falls out of top ten

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 15, 2014) – Tallahassee Community College held on to the No. 2 ranking in the FCSAA Softball Coaches’ Poll, released on Tuesday.

The Eagles received eight of the 22 available first-place votes and 199 total points in the voting, just nine points behind top-ranked Indian River State College, who picked up 12 first-place nods. Both teams suffered losses last week – Tallahassee was 3-3 while Indian River State went 4-2 – but it was not enough to knock either from their perch atop the state rankings.

No. 3 Polk State College, who received the remaining two first-place votes, and No. 4 College of Central Florida also held their poll position from a week ago.

The next four teams in the rankings changed positions from a week ago, beginning with No. 5 Santa Fe College, who moved up one spot. Northwest Florida State College, who picked up two wins against Tallahassee on April 8, jumped from No. 8 to No. 6. Daytona State College slipped two spots to No. 7 and Miami Dade College dropped from No. 7 to No. 8.

Chipola College and State College of Florida remained No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.

In the FCSAA Baseball Coaches’ Poll, the news was not so good for Tallahassee, who dropped out of the top ten for the first time in two seasons.

The Eagles, ranked No. 7 in the previous poll, fell out of the rankings after dropping three of four games last week.

Gulf Coast State College is ranked No. 1 for a second straight week followed by Polk State, St. Johns River State College, Chipola, Miami Dade, Central Florida, Hillsborough Community College, Eastern Florida State College and Northwest Florida State.

Following a tie for No. 10 between Seminole State College and State College of Florida, the Eagles had the next highest point total in the voting.
