National Signing Day arrives for seven from TCC Basketball
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 17, 2014) – Seven Tallahassee Community College basketball standouts – two women, five men – have announced where they will spend the next two – and in one case, three – seasons.
The announcements took place on Thursday during the College’s annual Spring Signing Day Ceremony.
Women’s basketball teammates Addesha Collins and Teleshia Riley both announced they will attend Lamar University.
Three of the five men’s basketball players will also head to the Lone Star State – Earvin Morris to the University of Texas-El Paso, Cameron Naylor to Texas State University and Duran Porter to Abilene Christian University.
Trevor McDade will attend Shorter University and Michael Saxton will attend Florida State University as a preferred walk-on.
Collins, a native of Anniston, Ala., was a first-team all-Panhandle Conference pick by both league coaches and media in 2014 after averaging 13.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.2 steals in 29 games.
Riley, a native of Brampton, ONT, Canada, will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Cardinals. During her lone season at Tallahassee, she averaged 5.1 points and 3.2 rebounds in 27 games.
Lamar, located in Beaumont, Texas, is a member of the Southland Conference. Collins and Riley represent the first players to sign with four-year schools under first-year coach Franqua “Q” Bedell.
Morris, a native of Memphis, Tenn., transferred to Tallahassee after playing his freshman season at Kent State University. In 22 games with the Eagles, he averaged 14.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.1 steals. He was a first-team all-conference selection by league coaches and second-team by league media.
UTEP, located in El Paso, Texas, competes in Conference USA.
Naylor, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., transferred to Tallahassee after playing his freshman season at the University of North Florida. In 24 games with the Eagles, he averaged 12.8 points and 5.3 rebounds. Like Morris, he was named first-team all-conference by the coaches and second-team by the media.
Texas State, located in San Marcos, Texas, competes in the Sun Belt Conference.
Porter, a native of Macon, Ga., is a two-year letter winner for the Eagles. He averaged 5.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in 25 games in 2014 and was named honorable mention all-Panhandle Conference.
Located in Abilene, Texas, Abilene Christian is a member of the Southland Conference.
McDade, a native of Bowie, Md., sat out the 2013-14 season and will have three years of eligibility at Shorter. During his freshman season with the Eagles in 2012-13, he averaged 15.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.7 steals en route to second-team All-Panhandle Conference honors by league coaches.
Shorter, an NCAA Division II institution, is located in Rome, Ga., and competes in the Gulf South Conference.
Saxton, a native of Orlando, Fla., earned his spot on the Eagles’ roster as a walk-on the previous two seasons. Saxton appeared in ten games this past season and averaged 1.6 points and 0.6 rebounds.
Florida State is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
