TCC overtakes Indian River State College for No. 1 in final FCSAA softball poll

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 29, 2014) – Tallahassee Community College’s bounce back season in softball hit another high note on Tuesday when the Eagles claimed the No. 1 ranking in the final FCSAA Softball Coaches’ Poll of the 2014 season.

After five straight weeks at No. 2 behind Indian River State College, Tallahassee finally overtook the Pioneers on Tuesday, receiving ten of the 20 possible first-place votes and 187 total points in the voting. Indian River State (eight first-place votes) came in just two points behind the Eagles for No. 2.

Both teams are also in the top five of the NJCAA, which released its final poll last week – Indian River State is No. 1; Tallahassee, No. 5.

After the shakeup at the top of the rankings, teams 3-10 held their position from a week ago, beginning with Polk State College and College of Central Florida, who received one first-place vote apiece.

Santa Fe College is No. 5 followed by Miami Dade College, Northwest Florida State College, Daytona State College, Chipola College and State College of Florida.

In the FCSAA Baseball Coaches’ Poll, Tallahassee re-entered the rankings at No. 9, ending a brief two-week hiatus from the top ten.

Unlike softball, the baseball rankings provided significant changes, beginning at the top where Chipola and St. Johns River State College moved up two spots to Nos. 1 and 2, respectively.

Polk State dropped one spot to No. 3, Miami Dade climbed one spot to No. 4 and previous No. 1 Gulf Coast State College slipped to No. 5.

Central Florida remained No. 6 while State College of Florida jumped three spots to No. 7.

Palm Beach State College, Tallahassee and Eastern Florida State College round out the top ten.
