Tallahassee men still No. 2, women fall to No. 5 in FCSAA coaches’ polls

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 9, 2014) – A pair of wins in the Applebee’s Men’s Basketball Classic helped Tallahassee Community College hold on the No. 2 ranking in the new FCSAA Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll, released on Tuesday.

The Eagles improved to 11-1 on the seasons with home court wins over Faulkner (Ala.) State Community College and TAAG (Fla.) Academy, Tallahassee’s best start since opening 14-1 in 2007-08.

Northwest Florida State College was a unanimous pick for No. 1, receiving all 19 first-place votes. Tallahassee received 167 total points in the voting, comfortably ahead of No. 3 Eastern Florida State College.

Tallahassee and Eastern Florida State will square off at 4 p.m. Sunday in the annual Florida College’s Men’s Basketball Shootout in Ocala, Fla.

St. Petersburg College is ranked fourth followed by Pensacola State College, Broward College, Miami Dade College, Palm Beach State College, the College of Central Florida and Gulf Coast State College, the only newcomer in this week’s poll.

On the women’s side, Tallahassee (9-2) slipped two spots to No. 5 after a mid-week loss at then-No. 7 Central Florida.

Chipola College and Northwest Florida State continue to hold down the Nos. 1 and 2 spots, respectively. Florida State College at Jacksonville, who moved into the three hole previously occupied by the Eagles, and Gulf Coast State each moved up one spot.

Central Florida moved up one spot to No. 6 and is followed by Daytona State College, Eastern Florida State, Santa Fe College and Miami Dade.
