Back on top: TCC Baseball jumps to No. 1 in FCSAA Baseball Coaches’ Poll

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 19, 2014) – Last season, Tallahassee Community College made itself at home atop the FCSAA Baseball Coaches’ Poll, holding the No.1  ranking for the final seven weeks of the regular season. 

On Tuesday, the Eagles claimed the state’s top ranking for the first time in 2014, moving up from No. 2 and unseating previous No. 1 State College of Florida. 

Tallahassee was an overwhelming pick for the No. 1 ranking, receiving 19 of 21 first-place votes and 207 points in the voting. Panhandle Conference rival Chipola College received the remaining two first-place votes and is ranked No. 2. 

State College of Florida, who comes to Eagle Field for a three-game series beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, slipped to No. 3. 

Rounding out the top ten is St. Petersburg College, St. Johns River State College, Gulf Coast State College, Polk State College, Hillsborough Community College, Palm Beach State College and the College of Central Florida. 

Tallahassee won its first game as the FCSAA’s No. 1 team on Tuesday, defeating Abraham Baldwin (Ga.) Agricultural College, 9-4, for head coach Mike McLeod’s 800th NJCAA win. 

In the FCSAA Softball Coaches’ Poll, Tallahassee received votes but did not crack the top ten.
