Eagle women climb to No. 6 in FCSAA rankings

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 22, 2014) – Tallahassee Community College climbed one spot to No. 6 in the FCSAA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll, released on Tuesday. 

The Eagles moved up one spot from No. 7, despite losing their only game of the week. That loss, however, came at the hands of top-ranked Chipola College, one in which the Eagles’ were neck-and-neck until the final ten minutes. 

With Tallahassee’s climb, four of the top six teams now reside from the Panhandle Conference – No. 1 Chipola, No. 2 Northwest Florida State College, No. 3 Gulf Coast State College and No. 6 Tallahassee. 

The fifth PC team, Pensacola State College, is ranked No. 9. 

Palm Beach State College and Florida State College at Jacksonville remained No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. St. Petersburg College moved up one spot to No. 7 while Hillsborough Community College slipped from sixth to eighth. 

Daytona State College rounded out the rankings at No. 10. 

In the men’s rankings, Tallahassee moved up one spot to No. 9 thanks to its victory over top-ranked Chipola on January 14. 

The Indians rebounded to knock off No. 2 Northwest Florida State College and held on to the top spot. In fact, the top seven teams in the poll remained intact – Chipola, Northwest Florida State, Daytona State, Eastern Florida State College, College of Central Florida, Santa Fe College and Pensacola State. 

Gulf Coast State moved up one spot to No. 8 and Broward College slipped two spots to No. 10.
