FCSAA BK Coaches’ Polls: Eagle women remain third, men fall to eighth

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 27, 2015) – The FCSAA released its weekly men’s and women’s basketball coaches’ polls on Tuesday and Tallahassee Community College continued to have a presence in both.

In the women’s poll, the Eagles remained at No. 3 for a second straight week, despite splitting two games during the most recent voting period.

In fact, the women’s poll remained intact from top to bottom this week, led by No. 1 Chipola College and No. 2 Northwest Florida State College.

Tallahassee garnered 113 points in the voting, narrowly hanging on to the third spot. The College of Central Florida received 111 points to come in at No. 4.

Florida State College at Jacksonville is No. 5 followed by Gulf Coast State College, Eastern Florida State College, Daytona State College, St. Petersburg College and Santa Fe College.

The Eagle women (19-5, 4-2 Panhandle Conference) begin a three-game stretch on Wednesday night that could ultimately define the course of their season. Tallahassee travels to Panama City, Fla., for a 6:30 p.m. eastern date against Gulf Coast State. Then, following a bye on Saturday the Eagles host Chipola next Tuesday and Northwest Florida State one week from Saturday.

Tallahassee is currently in third place in the PC standings, one game behind first-place Chipola, one-half game behind second-place Northwest Florida State and 2.5 games ahead of fourth-place Gulf Coast State – with six games remaining in the regular season. The top three teams will advance to next month’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA State Basketball Tournament in Ocala, Fla.

In the men’s poll, Tallahassee (16-7, 2-4) slipped three spots to No. 8 following a 0-2 week.

The Eagles lost games to No. 1 Northwest Florida State (76-70) and No. 5 Pensacola State College (54-53, OT) by a combined seven points. Tallahassee is joined in the eight-hole by another set of Eagles – Polk State College.

Eastern Florida State is ranked No. 2 followed by Broward College and Daytona State. St. Petersburg leads the second half of the poll, followed by Central Florida, Tallahassee, Polk State and Miami Dade.

Tallahassee and Gulf Coast State meet in a pivotal men’s contest at 8:30 p.m. eastern on Wednesday, also in Panama City, Fla.
