Eagles climb to No. 2 in FCSAA Baseball Coaches’ Poll

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 5, 2014) – After falling from the top spot in last week’s FCSAA Baseball Coaches’ Poll, Tallahassee Community College made a move back towards the top on Tuesday, climbing into a tie for No. 2 with arch-rival Chipola College. 

Tallahassee enjoyed a perfect 5-0 week, highlighted by a three-game sweep against NJCAA No. 5 Chattahoochee Valley (Ala.) Community College. The Eagles have since run their win streak to nine games and currently stand at 21-5. 

State College of Florida narrowly edged out Tallahassee and Chipola and holds down the No. 1 ranking for a second straight week. The Manatees received eight of the 23 first-place votes and 202 points overall. Chipola (nine first-place votes) and Tallahassee (six first-place votes) received 196 points each. 

The remainder of the top ten is (in order) St. Petersburg College, Gulf Coast State College, St. Johns River State College, Eastern Florida State College, The College of Central Florida, Northwest Florida State College and Palm Beach State College. 

Tallahassee hosts St. Johns River State at 5 p.m. Thursday. 

In the FCSAA Softball Coaches’ Poll, Tallahassee checked in at No. 7 for a second straight week. 

The Eagles, who went 3-3 and finished second in the Silver Bracket at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, are 16-7 on the season. 

Indian River State College continues to lead the top ten, followed by Central Florida, Chipola, Northwest Florida State, Polk State College, Miami Dade College, Tallahassee, Daytona State College, St. Petersburg and State College of Florida. 

Tallahassee hosts State College of Florida for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. Friday.
