PC media announce all-conference basketball teams

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 6, 2015) – The Panhandle Conference media released its 2015 all-conference basketball teams on Friday. Sixteen members of the conference’s media selected first- and second-team all-conference squads, as well as an all-freshman team, Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year for both men and women.

Tallahassee Community College had five players recognized.

Elmo Stephen was voted to the men's first-team, the only first-team pick in the Eagles' quintet of honorees. Stephen's teammate, Dirk Williams, was voted to the men's second-team.

On the women's side, Cat Wells was a second-team pick.

Cameron Smith and Eboni Watts were voted to the men's and women's all-freshmen team, respectively.

In the voting for each of the six major individual awards, the PC voters – comprised of print, radio, digital media and sports information representatives – agreed with the league coaches.

In the men’s voting, Northwest Florida State College’s Benji Bell was the media’s pick for men’s Player of the Year honors. Bell’s teammate, Brandon Austin, was voted Freshman of the Year.

On the women’s side, Chipola’s Evelyn Akhator was selected as Player of the Year while Gulf Coast State College’s Kristina King was the media’s choice for Freshman of the Year.

Coach of the Year honors went to Northwest Florida State’s Steve DeMeo, who guided the Raiders to the PC men’s championship, and Chipola’s Greg Franklin, whose team won the PC women’s title for a second straight season.

NOTE: The media vote has no bearing on all-state, all-region and all-America voting.
