Eagles knock off Darton State, Central Alabama on Opening Day

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (January 25, 2013) - FCSAA No. 10 Tallahassee Community College started the 2013 campaign on a good note, winning both games of a doubleheader on Friday afternoon at the First Pitch Classic, an event hosted by Gulf Coast State College.

Tallahassee defeated Darton (Ga.) State College, 2-1, in its season opener then came right back and knocked off Central Alabama Community College, 5-1, in its second game of the day.

Jared Stanley picked up the game one win, tossing four scoreless innings in relief of starter Dan VanSickle, who gave up only one run in three innings of work.

Offensively, the Eagles were led by Anthony Torres, who was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. James Abbatinozzi scored twice and was 1-for-3.

In game two, another pitching duo powered the Eagles to the 5-1 win over Central Alabama.

Ethan Bornstein went the first four innings and allowed the only run of the game. Nick Deckert shut out the Trojans over the final three innings.

Clay Fenwick paced the Eagles at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Matt Bahnick was 1-for-3 with three RBIs, and Florida State signee Nick Graganella was 1-for-1 with a walk.

Tallahassee will resume play in the First Pitch Classic with another pair of games on Saturday. The Eagles will play a second game against Darton State at 4 p.m. followed by a 6:30 p.m. tilt against host Gulf Coast State.

The Gulf Coast State game will not count in the Panhandle Conference standings.
