TCC Baseball hosts TCC Diamond Classic February 7-9

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 7, 2013) – Tallahassee Community College's baseball team will host the TCC Diamond Classic, Thursday-Saturday, February 7-9, at Eagle Field. 

Weather permitting, the three-day event is slated for a total of five games, beginning with Thursday's 6 p.m. game between Tallahassee and Gordon (Ga.) State College. The game was originally scheduled for a 4 p.m. first pitch but was pushed back two hours due to rain. 

Tallahassee lefty Nick Deckert is slated to get the start on the mound for Tallahassee on Thursday. 

Tallahassee and Gordon State (0-2) will play again at 2 p.m. Friday in the first of a pair of games scheduled for day two. Gordon State will take on Central Alabama Community College (0-5) at approximately 5 p.m. 

Tallahassee and Central Alabama will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday to conclude the Classic. 

Tallahassee was the big mover in this week's FCSAA Baseball Coaches' Poll, jumping seven spots to No. 2. That ranking, as well as the Eagles' 7-1 record, will be put to the test with its games against Gordon State and Central Alabama. 

Gordon State, the reigning NJCAA Region 17 and East Central District Champions, is coming off a 40-win season in 2012 that ended with a third-place finish at the JUCO World Series. The Highlanders will be the fourth opponent on Tallahassee's schedule from the Peach State – the Eagles are a perfect 6-0 in games against Darton State College (2-0), South Georgia College (2-0) and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (2-0). 

Central Alabama, a traditional power from Region 22, is off to a rocky 0-5 start, including a 5-1 loss to Tallahassee on January 25 at the First Pitch Classic in Panama City, Fla. Three of the Trojans' other four losses have come to Panhandle Conference foes.
