Eagles win in 13 innings to split series with SCF

BRADENTON, Fla. (February 16, 2013) – Trent Higginbothem's double in the top of the 13th inning scored Anthony Torres with the go-ahead run and FCSAA No. 3 Tallahassee Community College defeated No. 6 State College of Florida, 6-5, on Saturday afternoon in a battle of top ten teams.

The Eagles (11-3) split the two-game series with the Manatees (11-5) with both games being decided by one run and in the final inning.

Torres reached based on SCF's fourth error of the day to lead off the 13th, and Clay Fenwick bunted his way on to move the go-ahead run into scoring position.

Higginbothem followed with a double to the gap in right centerfield to score Torres. Fenwick, trying to score from first, was tagged out a home to keep the lead at one run.

Nick Baker pitched the final 3.2 innings to earn the victory for Tallahassee.

Just like Friday's series opener, Tallahassee dug itself out of a big hole. On Saturday, however, the Eagles hung on for the victory.

Trailing 5-0, Tallahassee took advantage of three eighth-inning errors by the SCF defense to tie the game. With the trio of miscues already in the book, a single by Chad Mabini scored Tyler York to pull the Eagles within a run. One batter later, Cody Borup's sac-fly to center plated Kevin Cruz to tie the game at 5-all.

Fenwick, Higginbothem and Matt Bahnick had two hits apiece for Tallahassee.

The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday when they host Florida State College at Jacksonville. First pitch at Eagle Field is at 4 p.m.
