Eagles run win streak to seven with DH sweep of Thomas JV

THOMASVILLE, Ga. (March 1, 2013) - FCSAA No. 4 Tallahassee Community College improved to 17-3 by sweeping a doubleheader from the Thomas University JV squad on Friday afternoon.

The Eagles picked up a 9-0 win in the opener then won game two, 8-1.

In game one, the story was Tallahassee pitcher Patrick Riley. The right-hander from Duluth, Ga., needed only 69 pitches to record the three-hit, seven-inning shutout. He struck out six and also retired the final 11 batters he faced.

Tallahassee gave Riley all the run support he would need with three runs in the second.

Kevin Cruz drew a leadoff walk and, two batters later, scored on James Abbatinozzi's single to right. The next batter, Tyler York, smacked a two-run homer, his second of the season, to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.

Abbatinozzi knocked in another run in the third, part of a three-run inning that doubled Tallahassee's lead to 6-0.

The Eagles finished the game one scoring with a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth.

Abbatinozzi (3-for-4, R, 2 RBI), Clay Fenwick (3-for-3, R) and Anthony Torres (3-for-4, 2 R) led the Eagles' 14-hit attack with three hits each.

In game two, Tallahassee was the beneficiary of another stellar outing on the mound, this time from Robert Garcia, in the 8-1 win.

Garcia scattered four hits and two walks while striking out six batters over five innings. Ryan Deckert came in to record the final six outs.

Chad Mabini (2-for-3, 2 R), Matt Bahnick (2-for-3, R, RBI), Trent Higginbothem (2-for-3, 3 RBI) and York (2-for-4, RBI) had two hits apiece in game two.

After a day off on Saturday, the Eagles will open a five-game series against Grand Rapids (Mich.) Community College at 2 p.m. Sunday.
