Eagles tame Tigers in series opener

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 8, 2013) - FCSAA No. 3 Tallahassee Community College bounced back from Thursday's loss at St. Johns River State College with a 5-2 win over Marion (Ala.) Military Institute on Friday afternoon in game one of two-game series between the two teams.

Tallahassee is now 23-4 while Marion dropped to 11-9.

Marion didn't find its way onto Tallahassee's schedule until Tuesday when it was confirmed the Tigers were available to replace Dakota County (Minn.) Technical Colllege, who pulled out of Friday and Saturday's games a week ago.

Three Tallahassee pitchers combined on a six-hitter and struck out 13 Marion batters.

Dan VanSickle, the second of the three Eagle hurlers, picked up the win in relief of starter Nick Baker, who pitched the first 1.1 innings. VanSickle pitched the next 3.2 innings in scoreless fashion and struck out eight.

Ethan Bornstein yielded only one hit and an unearned run over the final four innings to record the save.

Offensively, Tallahassee was led by Clay Fenwick, who was 4-for-5 with one RBI. Matt Bahnick was 1-for-3 with a two-run RBI.

Game two of the teams' series will be at 2 p.m. Saturday.
