TCC vaults to No. 1 in NJCAA baseball poll

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 24, 2013) – For the first time in its 23-year history, Tallahassee Community College is ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA Division I Baseball Poll.

The Eagles, who were ranked No. 2 in the previous NJCAA poll, received eight of the ten first-place votes and 190 total points in the balloting.

Rounding out the top five is Cowley County (Kan.) Community College, Delgado (La.) Community College, Iowa Western Community College and Lamar (Colo.) Community College.

"It's a great tribute to the season we've had," said Tallahassee head coach Mike McLeod. "We'll enjoy it for a day or two then get back to work and try to keep this season going as long as we can."

Tallahassee's 42 wins are the most of any team in the NJCAA Top 20, and the Eagles won the Panhandle Conference Championship with a sparkling 16-4 league record.

Tallahassee is on a six-week run atop the Florida College System Activities Association's (FCSAA) Baseball Coaches' Poll and, on Tuesday, moved up one spot to No.2 in Perfect Game's JUCO Top 25.

The Eagles (42-8) close the regular season by hosting Pasco-Hernando Community College for a three-game series beginning at 5 p.m. Friday.

Tallahassee will open play in the NJCAA Gulf District/FCSAA Baseball Tournament on Friday, May 10.
