McEnery, Riley named Scholar-Athletes of the Year at TCC

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (May 1, 2013) - Tallahassee Community College has named its Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year for the 2012-13 academic year.

The Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year is Cherise McEnery, a member of Tallahassee's softball team. Patrick Riley, a member of Tallahassee's baseball team, is the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

McEnery, a second-year participant from Cloverdale, Calif., saw action at various positions during her two-year career with the Eagles, including first base, third base and designated player. In 2012, she was named honorable mention all-Panhandle Conference and helped the Eagles to a berth in the FCSAA Gulf District Tournament.

Academically, she has earned Dean's List honors and was named All-Academic by the Panhandle Conference in 2012.

McEnery, who plans to major in biology, is on track to graduate with honors. She has accepted a softball scholarship to Lynn University.

Riley, a second-year participant from Duluth, Ga., has helped Tallahassee to an NJCAA No.1 ranking and a Panhandle Conference Championship as a member of the Eagles' pitching staff in 2013. The right-hander was recently named second-team all-Panhandle Conference.

Riley, too, is a Dean's List student and on track to graduate with honors. In 2012, he was named All-Academic by both the Panhandle Conference and Florida College System Activities Association.

Although still undecided on where he will spend his next two years, Riley plans to major in business.

Both McEnery and Riley was their respective teams' sophomore representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
