TCC carries NJCAA No. 1 ranking to postseason

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (May 8, 2013) - Tallahassee Community College's baseball team will carry a No. 1 ranking into the postseason.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) released its latest Division I Baseball Poll on Wednesday and the Eagles continued to sit atop the rankings.

Tallahassee was a near-unanimous pick for the top spot, garnering nine of the ten first-place votes and 199 points in the voting.

The top four remained intact from the April 24 poll – Tallahassee, No. 2 Cowley County (Kan.) Community College, No. 3 Delgado (La.) Community College and No. 4 Iowa Western Community College.

Tallahassee and No. 11 Connors (Okla.) State College have 45 wins apiece, most of any teams in the Top 20, although the Eagles' 45-8 record is one-half game better than Connors State (45-9).

The Eagles are joined in the NJCAA poll by a pair of Region 8 foes – No. 15 State College of Florida and No. 20 Miami Dade College.

Tallahassee, State College of Florida and Miami Dade also continue to lead the way in Perfect Game's JUCO Top 50, although in a slightly different order.

For the second straight week, Miami Dade leads the Florida trio at the top of the poll. Tallahassee is ranked No. 2 followed by No.3 State College of Florida.

All three teams will be part of the eight-team field at the NJCAA Gulf District/FCSAA Baseball Tournament in Lakeland, Fla., beginning May 10.
