TCC’s Kevin Cruz commits to Valdosta State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (July 30, 2013) – Tallahassee Community College sophomore outfielder Kevin Cruz has committed to Valdosta State University.

Cruz, a native of Tampa, Fla., transferred to Tallahassee after playing his freshman season at Faulkner State (Ala.) Community College in 2011 and sitting out the 2012 campaign.

In 2013, Cruz saw action at first base, third base and right field, and as the team's designated hitter. In 45 games, he batted .265 with one home run and 32 RBI.

Cruz capped his sophomore season with an all-tournament selection at May's NJCAA Gulf District/FCSAA State Baseball Tournament. In three postseason games, he batted .364 (4-for-11) with one run scored and three RBI.

At Valdosta State, Cruz will be reunited with pitchers Ethan Bornstein and Jared Stanley, all teammates on Tallahassee's 2013 Panhandle Conference Championship team.

Cameron Tewksbury, who pitched for Tallahassee in 2011-12, will also join the Blazers' program after transferring from the University of South Carolina.

Valdosta State, located in Valdosta, Ga., is a member of the Gulf South Conference.
