World Series Champion David Ross to throw out first pitch at Eagles' home opener

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 4, 2014) – Tallahassee Community College's baseball team will play its home opener at 4 p.m., Thursday, February 6 when the Eagles host Gordon (Ga.) State College in game one of a three-game series. 

Although the Eagles launched their 2014 campaign last weekend with four games at the First Pitch Classic in Panama City, Fla., Thursday's game at Eagle Field will serve as "Opening Day" to the college baseball season in Tallahassee and to mark the occasion, Tallahassee native and World Series Champion David Ross will throw out the game's ceremonial first pitch. 

"The city of Tallahassee has a rich baseball tradition, and David (Ross) is a big part of that," said director of athletics Rob Chaney. "We couldn't be more excited to have him (David) in attendance for our first home game and the first college baseball game in Tallahassee in 2014." 

Ross, a 12-year Major League veteran, won his first World Series ring in 2013 as a catcher for the Boston Red Sox and played a key role in the series, which Boston won in six games over the St. Louis Cardinals. 

Ross was the starting catcher in all four of the Red Sox' wins over the Cardinals, and he caught the final pitch of the series from closer Koji Uehara. 

Ross, a prep standout at Florida High School, played collegiately for both Auburn University and the University of Florida. He made his Major League debut on June 28, 2002, as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers. 

Ross later spent four seasons (2009-12) with the Atlanta Braves.​
