Twice as nice: Eagles sweep South Georgia State to improve to 9-0

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 11, 2014) – Tallahassee Community College ran its record to 9-0 with a pair of 4-3 wins over South Georgia State College on Tuesday afternoon at Eagle Field.

In the nightcap, Tallahassee fended off a seventh-inning rally to complete the sweep. The Eagles led 4-1 heading into the seventh but watched as the Hawks scored a pair of runs and had the tying run in scoring position before Logan Elliot got Chase Morris to pop up to first to end the game.

Elliot, who inherited a two-on, none-out situation, recorded the final three outs for his second save of the season.

Tallahassee got on the board with a pair of runs in the second. Cole Johnson's single to shallow center scored Quincy Nieporte, and Johnson later came home on a ground out by Kyle Pausche.

After the Hawks cut the lead in half, Tallahassee got the run back in the bottom of the fourth, courtesy of Cody Borup's solo homer, his second of the season.

The Eagles scored what proved to be the game-winning run an inning later on Johnny Blue Craig's sacrifice fly.

Tallahassee managed only six hits in game two – Borup went 2-for-3 and was the only player with multiple hits.

On the mound, Ryan Deckert (1-0) went four innings to earn the win. He allowed only three hits, walked none and struck out three.

In the opener, Tallahassee overcame a 2-0 deficit to score its first 4-3 win of the day.

South Georgia State tagged Eagle starter Cody Alling for a pair of first-inning runs on RBI-singles by Reed Melcom and Lake Hart, but that was all the offense the Hawks would muster against the southpaw.

Alling (1-0) allowed only three hits over the next 3.2 innings before giving way to Connor O'Brien with two outs in the fifth. O'Brien pitched the final 2.1 innings to earn the save, his second of the year.

Down 2-0, the Eagles cut the deficit in half on one swing in the bottom of the first – Christian Dicks' solo homer.

Tallahassee scored twice in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead then added the decisive run in the sixth when Ryne Willard doubled home Geremy Walton

Bobby Rice, who drove in one of the Eagles' fourth-inning runs, went 2-for-4 and was Tallahassee's only multi-hit performer in game one.

Tallahassee will resume play on Friday when it opens a three-game set at Eagle Field against Shelton State (Ala.) Community College.
