#BirdGang Blowout: Eagles beat Seminole State, 20-1, to lock up berth to Lakeland

PALATKA, Fla. (April 28, 2014) – Tallahassee Community College's Houdini act added another chapter on Monday.

Last week, the Eagles erased a three-game deficit in the Panhandle Conference standings with three games to play, as well as a four-run deficit in the sixth inning of their regular season finale just to capture the league's wild card berth.

With that task in the rear view mirror, the Eagles simply went out and made a statement in Monday's FCSAA Wild Card game, defeating Mid-Florida Conference wild card Seminole State College, 20-1, to advance to bracket play of the FCSAA Tournament in Lakeland, Fla., May 9-14.

Tallahassee (38-16) jumped on the Raiders for six runs in the top of the first, highlighted by a two-run homer from Quincy Nieporte and a three-run shot off the bat of Robert Henderson.

Seminole State got one of the runs back against Tallahassee starter Logan Elliot in the bottom of the first and appeared to have weathered the storm, but the Eagles' bats went to work again in the fourth.

Christian Dicks continued his hot streak at the plate, swatting a three-run homer to left center and Cody Borup singled home Ryne Willard for a 10-1 lead.

Tallahassee played more long ball in the seventh – Jonathan Burkett hit a solo homer, his second in as many games, and Willard added a two-run blast. By this point, the score was 16-1 and the Eagles knew a trip to Lakeland was inevitable.

The Eagles finished the scoring with four in the eight, capped by Dicks' two-run single.

Tallahassee will open play in the FCSAA Tournament on Friday, May 9. The Eagles' opponent is expected to be State College of Florida in a game that will begin at 4 p.m.
