TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (July 18, 2014) – Tallahassee Community College baseball standout Will Thompson has signed a national letter of intent with Auburn University and will join the Tigers' program this fall.

Thompson, a native of Bonifay, Fla., spent the past two seasons in Tallahassee but will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Tigers, the result of a medical redshirt in 2013 due to Tommy John surgery.

"I'm extremely happy for Will, it's always been his dream to pitch for a Division I program," said Tallahassee head coach Mike McLeod. "Now, he has that opportunity and, following a redshirt year, has three years of eligibility (at Auburn). Given time, I think he'll work his way into the mix and be a nice addition to Auburn's program."

With Thompson heading to the Plains, the Eagles have now sent three pitchers to schools in the SEC's Western Division in the last month. Collin Strall signed with Louisiana State University while Logan Elliot inked with Mississippi State University.

Thompson, a southpaw who stands 6-foot-6, appeared in only two games in 2013 before suffering a season-ending injury.

Following a year of rehab, he returned to the mound March 4, 2014, against Grand Rapids (Mich.) Community College and promptly pitched three no-hit innings and struck out six in Tallahassee's 14-2 win over the Raiders. Thompson went on to pitch in nine games total and finished the year with a 1-2 record and 4.42 ERA. In 18.1 innings of work, he struck out 20.

Off the field, Thompson was named all-academic by the Panhandle Conference in both 2013 and 2014.
