TCC Baseball’s Ricky Negron inks with Auburn

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (July 25, 2014) – Tallahassee Community College baseball standout Ricky Negron has signed a national letter of intent with Auburn University.

Negron, a native of Babylon, N.Y., and son of New York Yankees executive Ray Negron, will join the Tigers' program this fall and have three years of eligibility remaining.

"I'm very excited about the opportunity I've received (from Auburn)," said Negron. "Auburn has a great coaching staff, and I'm excited to begin working with them.

"The entire staff at TCC did a great job preparing me for this step I'm about to take on the field and in the classroom. Nothing will make me happier than earning a degree from Auburn University."

Last month, Negron was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 39th round of Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft.

With Tallahassee, Negron appeared in 24 games at third base and batted .302 with one home run and 14 RBI.

Penciled in as the Eagles' starting third baseman in 2015, he will now compete for the same role with Auburn.

At Auburn, Negron will be reunited with former Tallahassee pitcher Will Thompson, who signed with the Tigers earlier this month.
