Eagles complete sweep of Thomas JV

THOMASVILLE, Ga. (March 8, 2015) – Playing its final games before Friday's Panhandle Conference opener, the Tallahassee Community College Eagles made the short drive to Thomas University on Sunday and swept a pair of games from the Nighthawks' JV squad, winning by the scores of 11-1 and 14-3.

The Eagles have won six straight and nine of 11 overall to improve to 18-8 on the season.

After sweeping a doubleheader against Thomas on Saturday, including a 17-1 win in game two, Tallahassee used the long ball in game one to continue piling up the runs on Sunday.

Zach Featherstone's two-run shot to right capped a three-run first inning. The Eagles' next score came in the fifth and, again, the home run ball was involved.

After Jeremy Scott scored on a fielder's choice, D.J. McKnight drilled a three-run homer to give Tallahassee a 7-0 lead.

Thomas got on the board with a run in the fifth then the Eagles added four more in the seventh, the last two runs courtesy of Cody Fulton's homer to left.

Meanwhile, starter and winning pitcher Kyle Pausche and Thomas Nicoll combined to limit the Nighthawks to just six hits. Pausche went five complete, allowing four hits and striking out four. Nicoll finished things up with two innings of two-hit ball.

Offensively, the Eagles were paced by McKnight, who was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs, and Featherstone, who was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs.

The offensive fireworks continued in game two as the Eagles tallied 15 hits in a 14-3 victory.

Dustin Dye was the primary beneficiary of Tallahassee's scoring bonanza. He pitched four innings of one-hit ball and struck out four to earn the victory. Craig Olson pitched a scoreless inning of no-hit ball and Cameron Paley tossed the final two innings.

Mac Wilson was 3-for-4, scored two runs and drove in two. Scott was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. McKnight, Tyler Kinard and Colby Sweat had two hits each.

Thomas got on the board first, scoring a run in its first bat, the Nighthawks' first lead since the first inning of game one on Saturday. The lead was short-lived, however, as Tallahassee tied the game in the second and added two more in the third.

The Eagles added a run in the fifth for a 4-1 lead then put the game away with back-to-back five-run innings in the sixth and seventh.

Scott's had a two-run single in the sixth then drove in another run with a single in the seventh.

Tallahassee opens the PC schedule with a three-game series against Pensacola State College. Games one and three will be held in Pensacola on Friday and Monday.

The middle game of the series will take place at Eagle Field at 2 p.m. Saturday.
