Eagles claim series with Northwest Florida State

NICEVILLE, Fla. (March 272015) – The Tallahassee Community College Eagles won the rubber game of their series with Northwest Florida State College on Friday evening, scoring a 7-4 victory in 10 innings.

The Eagles improved to 25-11 on the season and 3-3 in Panhandle Conference play.

The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning.  A leadoff walk by Tyler Kinard, a Cody Fulton single and a Robert Henderson walk loaded the bases for the Eagles.  Mac Wilson singled to left field to score Kinard for the first run of the game. Later in the inning, with two outs, Ethan Crout singled into centerfield to score Henderson.

The Raiders came back in the third with a run of their own to cut the Eagles' lead to 2-1.

Both team's pitching staffs took over at that point and held its opponent scoreless until the ninth inning when the Eagles scored a pair of runs to take a 4-1 lead.

Wilson scored on a sacrifice fly by D.J. McKnight and Geremy Walton plated Chad Mabini on a single.

Northwest Florida State came back to tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth with three runs off closer Matt Schaeffer to force extra innings.

It only took the Eagles one more inning, however, to seal the victory as they scored three runs in the tenth.

Wilson singled home Fulton with the first run of the inning, which proved to be the game-winner

Wilson went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and also scored twice.

Dustin Dye got the start on the mound for the Eagles and pitched five solid innings, giving up one run and striking out four batters.

Schaeffer and Mabini took the mound in relief with Schaeffer earning the win.  He is now 3-1 with tonight's victory.

The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host Gulf Coast State College in game one of a three-game series. Saturday's first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
