Commodores drop TCC Baseball in seven innings

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 1, 2015) – Gulf Coast State College scored four runs in the top of the first and cruised to a 10-1, seven-inning victory over Tallahassee Community College on Wednesday afternoon take the rubber game of the teams' three-game Panhandle Conference series.

The Eagles won the series opener on Saturday in shutout fashion, 6-0, but dropped Monday's second game in Panama City, 5-2.

Tallahassee is now 26-13 overall and drops to fourth place in the PC standings at 4-5.

The Commodores wasted no time on Wednesday, scoring four runs in the first of Tallahassee starter and losing pitcher Chris Elander

With a run already in, Nick Nelson drilled a three-run homer over the left field fence to stake Gulf Coast State to a 4-0 advantage.

The Commodores added two more in the second and one more in the fourth for a 7-0 lead. A three-run seventh inning put Gulf Coast State in position to earn the victory via the mercy rule.

Tallahassee avoided the shutout by scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Robert Henderson led off the inning with a single then stole his way to third base. He scored on a Gulf Coast State error, but that was the only run the Eagles plated in what turned out to be the final inning.

The Eagles managed just three hits against Commodore left Adam Bleday, who struck out nine in a complete-game effort.

Ethan Crout, Henderson and Geremy Walton had one hit each for Tallahassee.

Tallahassee opens a three-game series with PC frontrunner Chipola College at 5 p.m. Friday. Games one and three are at Eagle Field.
