Chipola stuns Tallahassee with ninth-inning rally

MARIANNA, Fla. (April 4, 2015) - Chipola College rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth to steal a 2-1 victory from Tallahassee Community College in Saturday afternoon Panhandle Conference baseball action.

PC-leading Chipola (31-8, 8-3) clinched the series with the win and will go for a sweep of the three games when the teams return to Eagle Field for a 5 p.m. first pitch on Monday. Tallahassee (26-15, 4-7) has now dropped four in a row.

For the second straight day, Tallahassee had the Indians on the ropes. On Saturday, however, Chipola was down to its final at-bat when a two-out error extended the inning and the Indians pounced on the opportunity.

With a runner on first, Maurice Cooley grounded to short but Kyle Taddeo's throw to second base was off the mark. As the ball continued to roll into right field, Isiah Gilliam scored all the way from first to tie the game.

Cooley, who advanced to second on the play, scored one batter later when Andrew DiLacqua's bad-hop single got through the infield to end the game.

The final inning negated a brilliant outing by Craig Olson and Chad Mabini, who held the Indians scoreless for 8.2 innings.

Olson turned in his second consecutive quality start against PC competition. He scattered six hits and walked only one batter over six innings, extending his scoreless innings streak to 12.

Mabini, Saturday's hard-luck loser, pitched the final 2.2 innings.

Tallahassee broke the scoreless tie on Zach Featherstone's solo homer in the sixth. He was 2-for-4, as was Ethan Crout.
