Olson just misses no-no vs. Chatt Valley, Eagles improve to 4-0

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (January 30, 2016) – Tallahassee Community College picked up two more wins on Saturday at the First Pitch Classic hosted by Gulf Coast State College. The Eagles defeated NJCAA No. 5 Chattahoochee Valley (Ala.) Community College, 5-0, and No. 11 Darton (Ga.) State College, 8-5.

Tallahassee knocked off the same two teams on Friday and emerged from the opening weekend with a perfect 4-0 record.

In the 5-0 win over Chattahoochee Valley, Tallahassee pitcher Craig Olson was the story. The sophomore lefty came within two outs of a no-hitter but the Pirates broke it up with one out in the seventh.

Olson (1-0) finished with a complete-game two-hitter.

Zach Featherstone provided all the offense Olson needed with a two-run homer in the third.

For the second straight day, Tallahassee won its second game of the day by an 8-5 score. On Friday, Ethan Crout's three-run, walk-off homer accounted for the final scoring in the win over Chattahoochee Valley.

The Eagles didn't need a last-inning hero on Saturday but they did benefit once again from the long ball. Manny Chavarria drilled a two-run shot, part of a 2-for-3 day that included a double.

Octavio Marin (1-0) earned the win in relief of starter Thomas Nicoll. Nick Marchese notched his first save.

Tallahassee travels to Florida State College at Jacksonville on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
