#TCCBaseball’s Featherstone, Arias selected in MLB Draft

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (June 12, 2016) – Major League Baseball’s 2016 First-Year Player Draft is in the books. Now, for a pair of Tallahassee Community College standouts, it’s decision time.

Sophomore outfielder Zach Featherstone and freshman pitcher Skylar Arias were selected on day three of the draft and have until July 15 to decide whether to sign a professional contract or continue with their collegiate careers.

Featherstone, a native of Charlotte, N.C., was the first Eagle to come off the board, drafted in the 12th round by the Minnesota Twins – he was the 17th pick of the round and 363rd pick overall.

Featherstone transferred to Tallahassee from North Carolina State University and appeared in 98 career games during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. For his career, he batted .320 with 14 home runs and 75 RBIs - .345/10/46 as a sophomore when he was selected first-team all-Panhandle Conference and second-team FCSAA all-state.

With his Tallahassee career complete, Featherstone is currently planning to attend the University of Charlotte, where he signed a national letter of intent.

Later on day three, the Cleveland Indians took Arias with the 16th pick of the 24th round – the 722nd pick overall.

Arias, a native of Jacksonville, appeared in 17 games as a freshman in 2016 and went 5-5 with one save and a 4.38 ERA. His strikeout numbers were most impressive – 89 in just 74 innings, which translates to 10.8 Ks per nine innings. Equally impressive is that he walked only 19 batters – a 4.7 K/BB ratio.

Arias is currently slated to return to the Eagles for his sophomore season.
