#TCCBaseball: Cavanaugh, Featherstone nab more postseason honors

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (May 17, 2016) – More postseason accolades have rolled in for a pair of Tallahassee Community College baseball standouts.

On Saturday evening, sophomores Kyle Cavanaugh and Zach Featherstone were recognized by the Florida College System Activities Association when they were named to the 16-member first- and second-team all-state baseball squad, respectively. Both players were previously voted first-team All-Panhandle Conference by league coaches and made the cut for the PC’s Top Ten Players.

On Tuesday, it was announced that Cavanaugh also earned a spot on the NJCAA Division I All-Gulf District team, comprised of 12 players from the FCSAA’s first-team all-state selections. One of four infielders who made the all-district team, Cavanaugh is now in contention for NJCAA All-America honors.

Cavanaugh, a first baseman from Orlando, Fla., played his freshman season at North Carolina State University then transferred to Tallahassee, appearing in 51 games in 2016. He flirted with the .400 mark most of the season before ending with a team-best .399 batting average. Cavanaugh also paced the Eagles’ offensive with 77 hits, 20 doubles and 58 RBIs. He also added four home runs.

Featherstone, like Cavanaugh, made his way to the Eagles via North Carolina State, though he transferred to Tallahassee before ever suiting up with the Wolfpack. The outfielder, who hails from Charlotte, N.C., played in 52 games as a sophomore and posted team-highs of 10 home runs, .498 on-base percentage and .632 slugging percentage. He also batted .345 with 17 doubles and 46 RBIs.
