Stepping Stones: Tanner Thomas, Virginia Tech

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (August 2, 2018) – Tallahassee Community College baseball standout Tanner Thomas has signed a national letter of intent with Virginia Tech.

Thomas, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., appeared in 110 games for head coach Mike McLeod's Eagles in 2017 and 2018 and posted a .305 career batting average with 12 home runs and 82 RBI, earning Second-team All-Panhandle Conference honors both seasons.

After a solid freshman campaign in which his slash line was .296/.404/.460, Thomas improved his numbers across the board in 2018.

He increased his batting average by 18 points (to .314) which also helped his slugging percentage rise to .508. Perhaps most impressive for Thomas was his discipline at the plate – he walked 44 times (15 more than as a freshman) and struck out eight fewer times, key numbers in a .453 on-base percentage, 49 points higher than his freshman season.

Defensively, Thomas posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage as a right fielder in 2018.

Virginia Tech, located in Blacksburg, Va., competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
