#TCCBaseball: Chatt Valley takes series opener

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 22, 2019) – Chattahoochee Valley (Ala.) Community College took game one of a three-game series against Tallahassee Community College, defeating the Eagles, 6-4, on Friday afternoon at Eagle Field. 

With rain in the forecast for Sunday, the teams will wrap up their weekend series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. 

After spotting the Pirates a 3-0 lead, Tallahassee tied the game in the third and the score stayed knotted up into the fifth. 

A one-out single off Tyler Lehrmann started the Pirates' rally. Following a wild pitch and a walk, Kale Ledford singled to left-center, scoring Andrew Greckel. Lehrmann avoided further trouble by inducing Tyler Daughtry to hit into an inning-ending double play. 

Earlier in the game, double plays snuffed out not one, but two Tallahassee scoring threats. 

In the second, three straight singles loaded the bases with nobody out for Cameron Wright, who hit a one-hopper back to the pitcher. After the force out at home, Jack Lipson's throw to first clanged off Wright and into foul territory, allowing one run to score. Wright, however, was called out for runner's interference, the run came off the scoreboard and Chatt Valley eventually got out of the inning. 

Alex Ray grounded into an inning-ending double play in the fourth, just before the Pirates scored the go-ahead run. 

Chatt Valley increased its lead to 6-3 with a pair of runs in the seventh. 

Tallahassee got a run back following the seventh-inning stretch but potentially missed out on more. 

Ray led off the inning with a triple to deep right-center and scored on Logan Lacey's sac-fly. After an error and walk put the tying runs on base, Tyler Lala reached when shortstop Parker McCoy's throw was in the dirt at first but first baseman Kale Ledford kept the ball in front of him and fired home, where Ridge Abinsay was tagged out trying to score. 

Another double-play erased a leadoff single in the eighth. In the ninth, singles by Taylor Lomack and Lacey put the tying runs on with one out, but Jordan Armstrong struck out the next two batters to end the game. He pitched the final 4.1 innings to earn the win. 

Lehrmann (1-2) took the loss, despite allowing only two hits in 4.1 innings. 

Jeff Athey went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Eagles. Lacey was 2-for-2. Chase Forester was 2-for-4. 

Prior to Saturday's game, members of the College's 1967-71 baseball teams will be recognized.
