#TCCBaseball blanks Thomas JV twice

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 18, 2019) – Tallahassee Community College's baseball team got back on the winning track Monday with a pair of shutout victories over Thomas (Ga.) University's JV squad.

The Eagles won game one, 2-0, then scored a 10-0, five-inning victory in game two to improve to 9-5 on the season.

The opener developed into a pitcher's duel between a pair of southpaws – Tallahassee's Javier Baldor and Thomas' Cole Elliott.

Elliott used a steady dose of off-speed pitches to limit the Eagles offensively, allowing only six hits while going the distance in the seven-inning game. Tallahassee scored the game's only two runs in the second.

With the bases loaded and nobody out, Rawlins Cleveland reached on a fielder's choice, enabling Ridge Abinsay to score from third. With runners still on the corners and just one out, Trent Jeffcoat laid down a sac-bunt that brought Tyler Lala home.

Baldor (1-0) pitched into the sixth but was lifted after a two-out single brought the tying run to the plate.

Logan Lacey, who started in right field, came on to record the final four outs and his first save of the season.

Abinsay (2-for-3) had two of the Eagles' six hits.

In game two, the Eagles broke a scoreless tie with nine runs in the third and eventually closed out the 10-0 victory with a run in the sixth.

Tallahassee sent 13 batters to the plate in the third.

Taylor Lomack's single scored Jeffcoat with the first run of the inning. Cyrus Grimes followed with a single to deep right, to plate Alex Ray and Lomack, who scored all the way from first.

Jeff Athey and Ray added two-run doubles later in the inning.

On the mound, Tanner Martin (1-0) and Klay Allen combined on a two-hit shutout.

Martin started and pitched four one-hit innings with four strikeouts. Allen came on in the fifth and allowed only one hit and struck out two in two innings.

Abinsay was again the only Eagle with multiple hits, finishing 2-for-3.

Tallahassee will return to play on Wednesday when it travels to Florida State College-Jacksonville. First pitch is at 4 p.m.
