#TCCBaseball wins in walk-off fashion

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 26, 2019) – Tallahassee Community College's baseball team picked up a 3-2, walk-off victory over Florida State College at Jacksonville on Tuesday evening at Eagle Field. 

Tallahassee improved to 12-7 on the season while the Blue Wave fell to 9-11.

The Eagles went to work quickly in their final at-bat to secure the win. Ridge Abinsay reached on second baseman Shane McCormack's wild throw to start the ninth and advanced to second on Jeff Athey's sac-bunt. Following an intentional walk to Chase Forester, Tyler Lala singled to left but as left fielder Austin Morton came charging in on the ball, he overran it and Abinsay trotted home for the winning run. 

Although the teams combined to commit four errors, a pair of stellar defensive plays helped set up the ninth-inning dramatics. 

With the game tied at two, Tallahassee was poised to take the lead in the sixth. Consecutive singles and a groundout left two runners in scoring position with just one down for Taylor Lomack, who hit a fly ball down the right field line. 

FSCJ's Logan Nugent made the catch and fired a dart to home plate, where Alex Luscombe tagged out Wright as he tried to score from third. 

Tallahassee stranded 15 base runners for the game. 

The Blue Wave had their best chance at the lead in the top of the ninth. 

Luscombe made it into scoring position to start the inning when Lomack misplayed a fly ball in centerfield and advanced to third on a sac-bunt. With the infield in, Trey Spratling-Williams hit a grounder right to second baseman Trent Jeffcoat, who threw home in time to retire Luscombe. 

Trace Moore and Tyler Lehrmann (2-2) combined to strike out 12 while allowing only four hits and one walk. The Blue Wave got all four of their hits off Moore, who started and went 6.2 innings and struck out a career-high nine. Three of the hits came in quick order during the third to erase the Eagles' 2-0 lead. 

Tallahassee got on the scoreboard in its first at-bat. With nobody on and two outs, FSCJ starting pitcher Collin Weghorst allowed a double and hit two batters to load the bases. Chase Forester followed with a single to center to score Lacey and Abinsay. 

The Eagles had baserunners in every inning and outhit the Blue Wave, 12-4, but couldn't push another run across until their final at-bat. 

Lomack was 3-for-5. Forester was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Tallahassee will travel to St. Johns River State College on Thursday for a 5 p.m. game against the Vikings.
