#TCCBaseball: Moore, Forester combine to no-hit Grand Rapids

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 4, 2019) – Trace Moore and Chase Forester threw a combined no-hitter in Tallahassee Community College's 2-0 win over Grand Rapids (Mich.) Community College in game one of Monday's doubleheader. 

Moore (1-0) started and pitched five innings then handed to the ball to Forester, who recorded the final six outs for his second save. It's the Eagles' first no-hitter since Nick Marchese accomplished the feat on February 22, 2016, in a 13-0 win over the Thomas University JV. 

The game evolved into a pitchers' duel, as Grand Rapids starter Garrett Cheslek allowed only two hits and single runs in the second and fourth innings. 

Tallahassee played small ball to get on the board in the second. After Forester drew a one-out walk, he stole second, advanced to third on a ground out then scored when Alex Ray successfully bunted his way on. 

The Eagles manufactured their second run in the fourth. With nobody on and two outs, Trent Jeffcoat drew a walk, stole second then scored on an error by Grand Rapids third baseman Jared Bujdos. 

Forester inherited the 2-0 lead and made quick work of the Raiders in the sixth, retiring the side in order. 

Forester retired the first two batters he faced in the seventh but a two-out hit-batsman brought the tying run to the plate for Grand Rapids. He got C.J. Breen to ground out to second, however, to end the game. 

Moore and Forester combined to allow two walks and strike out four. 

Ray and Taylor Lomack had the Eagles' two hits.

Eagles rally for walk-off win in Game 2 

The Eagles scored four runs in its final at-bat to erase a three-run deficit and defeat Grand Rapids, 6-5, in game two. 

Grand Rapids jumped on the Eagles for three runs in its first at-bat and still led 5-2, needing just three outs to salvage a split of the doubleheader. The Raiders never recorded an out in the seventh. 

Forester drew a leadoff walk and advanced to third on Jeffcoat's single to shallow center. After Ray singled home Forester, Tallahassee had the tying runs on base. 

Following a pitching change, Lomack walked to load the bases, setting up the key play of the inning. 

Cameron Wright hit a bouncer to shortstop but Jake Ryan's throw was wide at first, scoring Jeffcoat and Ray to tie the game. With first base open, the Raiders intentionally walked Logan Lacey. 

The next batter, Ridge Abinsay, singled down the right field line, to score Lomack with the winning run – Abinsay's first career walk-off hit. 

Lomack finished 3-for-3. Ray and Jeffcoat were 2-for-3. Abinsay was 1-for-4. 

Lacey (1-0) recorded the final out in the top of the seventh to end up with the win for the Eagles, who improved to 15-8 heading into Thursday's Panhandle Conference opener against two-time defending national champion Chipola College.
