#TCCBaseball: Eagles roll past ‘Dores in series opener

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 28, 2019) – Tallahassee Community College's baseball team opened a four-game series against Gulf Coast State College with a 10-2 victory on Thursday evening.

The outcome left both teams with matching 2-7 records in Panhandle Conference play while the Eagles improved to 21-15 overall.

Logan Lacey (2-1) got the start for Tallahassee and allowed just one earned run and six hits in the seven-inning complete game.

The Eagles, meanwhile, drew Commodore ace Brett Wisely, who entered the game with a Region 8-best 1.15 ERA, having allowed just seven earned runs in 54.2 innings. Tallahassee was more than up to the challenge, however, touching up Wisely for nine earned runs in five plus innings on Thursday.

After spotting Gulf Coast State a 1-0 lead, Tallahassee went to work in its first at-bat, totaling four hits in the inning. Alex Ray's single scored Taylor Lomack to tie the game, and Cyrus Grimes' two-run double plated Jeff Athey and Ridge Abinsay

The Commodores had base runners in each inning but hit into four double-plays, including one in the top of the third after trimming Tallahassee's lead to 3-2 and with the go-ahead runs on base.

Wisely balked home the first run in the bottom of the third then Lacey helped his own cause with a RBI-single in the infield.

The score was just 6-2 when Lacey led off the sixth with a double down the left field line. Cameron Wright and Tyler Lala, who led off the fourth with a homer, followed with singles to plate Lacey and knock out Wisely, respectively. Tallahassee added three more runs in the inning without the benefit of another hit. A pair of bases-loaded walks and another balk brought the runs home and put the Eagles in position to end the game in the seventh.

Lomack, Lacey and Lala had two hits each for Tallahassee.

The teams will continue their four-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday in Panama City. Game one will begin at 2 p.m. eastern.
