#TCCBaseball: ‘Dores win to avoid sweep

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 2, 2019) – Gulf Coast State College avoided a four-game series sweep with an 8-3 win over Tallahassee Community College on Tuesday afternoon.

Tallahassee dropped to 4-8 in Panhandle Conference play, 23-16 overall.

The Eagles had an abundance of opportunities on Tuesday but struggled to come up with the big hit. Their first at-bat foreshadowed what was to come for much of the afternoon.

After a pair of one-out walks put two men on, Ridge Abinsay grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to end the threat. Though Tallahassee was retired in order only once, it stranded 12 base runners.

Meanwhile, Gulf Coast State found ways to manufacture runs throughout. Single runs in the second and third, two more in the fifth then, after Tallahassee cut into the Commodores' lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, they answered with three runs in the top of the seventh.

The teams traded runs in the ninth.

Taylor Lomack was 3-for-3 and walked twice.

Trace Moore (1-1) started and took the loss for Tallahassee. He was charged with three earned runs despite allowing only two hits.

Tallahassee will open a four-game series with Pensacola State College on Thursday in Pensacola. First pitch is 6 p.m. eastern.
