#TCCBaseball: Grimes powers Eagles past Pirates
PENSACOLA, Fla. (April 9, 2019) – Behind a pair of home runs from Cyrus Grimes, Tallahassee Community College completed a four-game sweep of Pensacola State College on Tuesday with a 16-7 win over the Pirates in Panhandle Conference baseball action.
Tallahassee (27-16, 8-8) has won seven of its last eight games to climb to .500 in PC play and kept pace with second-place Chipola College (11-5) in the league standings.
The Eagles sent 12 men to the plate in the top of the first and raced to an 8-0 lead. They scored four more in the second and led 12-0 before the Pirates got on the board.
Grimes hit the first of his homers, a solo shot, in the top of the 3rd. He led off the sixth with his second solo home run of the night and finished 3-for-4, scored four runs and drove in three.
In between Grimes' homers, Cameron Wright smacked a two-run shot in the top of the fourth.
Pensacola State hit four homers of its own, all off Tallahassee starter Leighton Alley, but they did little to put a significant dent in the Eagles' lead.
Grimes finished 3-for-4, scored four runs and drove in three. Taylor Lomack went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Eric Hernandez was 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
Collier Baggett (2-1) pitched the final four innings for the win.
Tallahassee will host Chipola at 5 p.m. Friday.
