Lawson, Eagles blank St. Johns River

PALATKA, Fla. (February 27, 2020) – Behind freshman right-hander Dilan Lawson and a pair of relievers, Tallahassee Community College shut out St. Johns River State College, 6-0, on Thursday evening.

The Eagles, winners of seven of their last 10 games, are now 12-7 on the season, moving head coach Mike McLeod four wins away from 1,000 for his career.

Thursday was easily the Eagles' most complete game of the season – they banged out 14 hits and, for just the third time this season, played error-free ball behind Lawson, Leighton Alley and Nolan Daniel

Lawson allowed just three hits through six innings while staked to a 2-0 lead. By the time Alley took the ball to start the seventh, the lead had doubled.

Andrew Fernandez led off the inning with a single and advanced to third on Orlando Adams' double. Two wild pitches, the third and fourth of the night by Vikings pitchers, plated both runners and gave Tallahassee a 4-0 lead.

The Eagles added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth.

Alley allowed just one hit over two innings and Daniel gave up a hit in the ninth before preserving the Eagles' second shutout of the season.

The top four in the Tallahassee batting order combined to go 11-for-19, led by Trent Jeffcoat's 4-for-4.

Spencer Hanson was 3-for-5. Both Fernandez and Adams went 2-for-5.

Jacob Estes also added two hits.

Tallahassee will make the short ride to Bainbridge, Ga., on Saturday for a neutral-site game against Abraham Baldwin (Ga.) Agricultural College. First pitch is at 1 p.m. at Bainbridge High School.
