TCC's Leek Leek signs with Campbell University

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (August 23, 2012) - Tallahassee Community College men's basketball standout Leek Leek has signed a national letter of intent with Campbell University.

Leek was born in Sudan but came to Tallahassee from High Point, N.C., after graduating from Wesleyan Christian Academy. He'll complete his collegiate career in his adopted home state, as Campbell is located less than 100 miles from High Point in the town of Buies Creek.

Leek admits the opportunity to return to the Tar Heel state played a part in his decision.

"I'm really excited to go back (to North Carolina)," said Leek. "It's close to home and my family and is somewhere I've played before."

Leek enjoyed a decorated career at Tallahassee, where he was a two-year letterwinner for coach Eddie Barnes.

"I really enjoyed coaching him, "said Barnes. "He was a coaches' dream – his energy level and willingness to learn made it a lot easier to get him on the floor, and it showed in some of the things he was able to do for us. He was obviously a big reason why we made it to the NJCAA Tournament (in 2011).

"Campbell is getting a player who can provide a lot of versatility, both inside and outside. He's not only a tremendous individual but a player who will continue to get better and better."

Leek was the 2011 NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Tournament Most Valuable Player after averaging 10.7 points in three games and leading the Eagles to the tournament championship and an eventual quarterfinals appearance at the NJCAA Tournament.

Leek's resume also includes a pair of first-team selections to the Coaches' All-Panhandle Conference basketball team. He averaged 9.4 points and 6.6 rebounds as a freshman then posted 8.4 points and 5.1 rebounds during the 2011-12 campaign.

PC media tabbed Leek second-team all-conference, as well as all-freshman, in 2011 and honorable mention in 2012.

Leek averaged 9.0 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.1 blocks in 64 career games. Other career numbers place him among the best in school history – 379 rebounds is good for eighth all-time while his 71 blocks ranks fourth.

"When I visited (Campbell), I could see myself there as a student and playing for the program," Leek added.

Campbell, an NCAA Division I school, competes in the Big South Conference.

Leek is the second member of Tallahassee's 2011-12 team to sign with a Big South school. Christian Farmer signed with Winthrop University during last fall's early signing period.
