"Must win" the theme for TCC men, women as Chipola comes to town

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 21, 2013) - With an 18-game Panhandle Conference losing streak now in the rearview mirror, Tallahassee Community College's women's basketball team will try to ride the momentum from Saturday's win at Pensacola State College into round two of conference play, which begins Tuesday evening at home against arch-rival Chipola College in a battle of nationally-ranked teams.

Tip-off at the Bill Hebrock Eagledome is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., and will be game one of a doubleheader between the longtime PC rivals. Men's action is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be carried by Panhandle Sports Broadcasting at www.PSBlive.com.

Tallahassee's 72-58 win at Pensacola State snapped a PC losing skid that had reached almost two years - the Lady Eagles' last conference victory was February 8, 2011, at Gulf Coast State College. It also ended a ten-game losing streak in PC road games. More importantly, the win kept Tallahassee out of an 0-4 hole in PC play, instead leaving Pensacola State winless this conference season.

Tallahassee, however, missed an opportunity to move within a game of third place in the PC standings. Chipola's last-second 75-72 win over conference leader Gulf Coast State forced a three-way tie atop the PC standings, along with Northwest Florida State College. All three teams are 3-1, two games ahead of Tallahassee, thus making Tuesday's showdown a potential swing game for the Lady Eagles and their hopes of capturing one of the PC's three postseason berths.

The Tallahassee men went into Saturday's game in a similar situation as the women, but came out of the evening with different results. Pensacola State dealt the Eagles a 76-63 loss, leaving Tallahassee at 0-4 in PC play for the second straight year.

Last year, Tallahassee escaped the school's record books by opening round two with a win over Gulf Coast State. This year, the Eagles will have to upset the nationally-ranked Indians to avoid the program's first 0-5 start in PC play.

Tuesday's games will be sponsored by Flagler College.
