Eagles snap losing streak, pick up first PC victory

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 16, 2013) – C.J. Washington scored 22 points and Trevor McDade added 20 points and 10 assists to lead Tallahassee Community College to a 76-58 win over FCSAA No. 6 Gulf Coast State College on Saturday evening in Panhandle Conference basketball action.

The win snapped a nine-game losing streak for Tallahassee (13-13, 1-9 PC), who won its first PC game of the year. Gulf Coast State (19-9, 4-7) missed a chance to reach the 20-win plateau, but will have one more opportunity in its season finale against Chipola College on February 23. 

Tallahassee all but led wire-to-wire on Saturday. 

Gulf Coast State rallied from an early 10-2 deficit to force a 15-all tie. Later in the half, the Commodores enjoyed a brief 30-29 lead, but Batson scored from underneath on the ensuing possession to put the Eagles back in front, 31-30, at the 1:46 mark. 

The rest of the night belonged to the home team. 

McDade knocked down a jumper just before the first half buzzer to give Tallahassee a 37-30 lead, and the Eagles' enjoyed a double-digit lead for much of the second half. 

Gulf Coast State was still within single digits at the midway point of the second half, trailing 53-45, but Tallahassee scored 14 of the next 17 points to put the game away. 

Jon Hood's basket with 4:43 left gave Tallahassee a 72-50 lead, its largest of the night. He joined Washington and McDade in double-figures with 11 points. 

Washington hit 9-of-17 shots from the floor, helping the Eagles' to a 42-18 advantage in the paint. 

Tallahassee also limited Gulf Coast State to 25.0 percent (6-of-24) shooting in the second half and 32.7 percent (16-of-49) for the game. 

The Eagles will play their final home game of the season on Tuesday when they host Northwest Florida State College at 7:30 p.m. The game will be carried by Panhandle Sports Broadcasting at www.PSBlive.com
