TCC Athletics will Play 4Kay on Tuesday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 18, 2013) - The schedules don't often align but, on Tuesday, Tallahassee Community College is scheduled to host four athletic events on the same day, beginning at 4 p.m. with a baseball and softball doubleheader and continuing at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. with a women's and men's basketball doubleheader.

All four events will support the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's Play 4Kay initiative and each of the Eagles' teams will be wearing pink items during Tuesday's games. Additionally, TCC Athletics is asking fans to show their support by wearing pink.

Play 4Kay is a unified effort of a nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness and funds for cancer research on and off the court. The late Kay Yow, former North Carolina State head women's basketball coach, served as the catalyst to this initiative after her third recurrence of breast cancer in 2006. Since its inception, Play 4Kay has raised $8 million dollars for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund™.

At 4 p.m., the action will begin on the baseball and softball diamonds, weather permitting, with a pair of Panhandle Conference vs. Mid-Florida Conference match-ups.

FCSAA No. 3 Tallahassee (11-3) is scheduled to host Florida State College at Jacksonville (4-7) at Eagle Field. The teams were scheduled to play in Jacksonville on February 5, but the game was postponed due to rain. Thus, Tuesday's meeting will be the first of the season between the Eagles and Blue Wave.

Tallahassee split a pair of one-run games in its weekend series at No. 6 State College of Florida. After watching the Manatees score two runs in their last at-bat to take a 6-5 win in Friday's opener, the Eagles rallied from a 5-0 deficit and won game two, 6-5 in 13 innings, on Saturday.

Next door at The TCC Softball Complex, Tallahassee (6-8) and FCSAA No. 10 Santa Fe (7-5) will meet for the second time this season. On February 5, the teams split a doubleheader in Gainesville - Tallahassee won game one, 3-2 in eight innings, while Santa Fe claimed the nightcap, 3-1, in a game that ended after five innings due to darkness.

After playing its first 12 games on the road, Tallahassee is in the midst of a 12-game homestand that began on Friday with a doubleheader split against Abraham Baldwin (Ga.) Agricultural College. The Eagles dropped game one, 7-4 in nine innings, then won game two, 8-0.

On the hardwood, Tallahassee will play its final home games of the season when it hosts Northwest Florida State College in a Panhandle Conference doubleheader. Both games will be streamed online at www.PSBlive.com.

In the 5:30 p.m. opener, FCSAA No. 5 Tallahassee (14-10, 3-7 PC) will try to prevent No. 2 Northwest Florida State's (23-3, 8-3) from clinching a share of the PC Championship.

Northwest Florida State and Gulf Coast State College currently sit atop the league standings with identical 8-3 records, one-half game ahead of Chipola College (7-3), who hosts Pensacola State College (0-10) on Tuesday.

Northwest Florida State, who finishes its regular season schedule on Tuesday, can get its piece of the title by defeating the Lady Eagles for the third time this season. If Tallahassee pulls the upset, the Lady Raiders' will no longer control their own destiny.

Meanwhile, idle Gulf Coast State is assured of playing for at least a share of the conference championship when it hosts Chipola in Saturday's finale. If Chipola is victorious on Tuesday against Pensacola State, Saturday's game with Gulf Coast State will have championship implications for both teams.

In Tuesday's 7:30 p.m. finale, the Eagles (13-13, 1-9) host the PC Champion Raiders (24-2, 10-1).

Tallahassee snapped a nine-game losing streak on Saturday, defeating Gulf Coast State, 76-58, for its first PC victory of the season. The win couldn't have come at a better time for the Eagles, who finally have some momentum on their side and will try to ride it through the final two games of the season.

No. 2 Northwest Florida State clinched the conference championship on Saturday, defeating Pensacola State, 85-82 in overtime, when Louisville signee Chris Jones knocked down the game-winning three-pointer with 1.9 seconds left on the clock. The Raiders are poised to move into the No. 1 spot on Tuesday, thanks to the College of Central Florida's loss to Santa Fe on Saturday.

Tuesday will mark the final home game for Tallahassee men's and women's basketball sophomores. Both teams will conclude the 2012-13 season on Saturday at Pensacola State College.
