Eagles drop close one to Chipola, now 2-6 in PC

MARIANNA, Fla. (February 1, 2014) - Tallahassee Community College came up on the wrong end of another close outcome on Saturday, falling to Chipola College, 63-57, in Panhandle Conference men's basketball action.

The Eagles (13-11) are now 2-6 in PC play and will enter the third and final round on the brink of elimination from postseason contention. Tallahassee will have a week off before traveling to Northwest Florida State College on February 8. 

Tallahassee's six Panhandle Conference losses have been by an average of five points.

Chipola outscored Tallahassee 8-2 over the final 2:51 to break a 55-all tie, but it was second chance points on consecutive possessions that put the nail in the Eagles' coffin. 

Trailing 56-55, Chipola's Ty Baker slammed home a missed shot to give the Indians a one-point lead. Following an Eagle turnover, Carlos Morris converted on a second chance opportunity to put the Indians in front 59-56 with just under a minute left. 

Morris finished with a team-high 18 points to lead three Chipola players in double-figures. Sam Cassell, Jr., scored 16 and Demetrious Floyd, 15. 

Tallahassee led for much of the game and enjoyed as much as a ten-point lead in the first half. The lead was 30-20 at the 4:23 mark but the Eagles were held scoreless the rest of the half and Chipola scored the final seven points to pull within three at the intermission. 

Cameron Naylor scored 15 points for Tallahassee and was the lone player in double-figures.
