Five hit double-figures in Eagles’ 83-78 win over Gulf Coast State

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (February 15, 2014) – Tallahassee Community College snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday, defeating Gulf Coast State College, 83-78, in Panhandle Conference men's basketball action.

The win, Tallahassee's first in six road tries during the 2014 PC season, improved the Eagles to 14-13 (3-8 PC) heading into Tuesday's season finale at home against Chipola College. In the process, the Eagles claimed the season series against Gulf Coast State and eliminated the Commodores (16-11, 4-6) from postseason contention.

In seven of its eight previous PC defeats, Tallahassee enjoyed a second half lead only to see things slip away late. And for a short while, a similar script seemed to be unfolding on Saturday.

After surging to a 67-53 lead with less than six minutes left in the game, Tallahassee saw its lead whittled to four (78-74) with 24 seconds left. Gulf Coast State's Elliott Cole did most of the damage, scoring a dozen points in a little over three minutes.

Four points was as close as Gulf Coast State would get, however. On the Eagles' ensuring possession, Cameron Naylor was fouled and hit both free throws to extend Tallahassee's lead back to six (80-74).

Tallahassee had one of its most balanced scoring efforts of the conference season, led by Naylor's 17 points.

Earvin Morris scored 14, Cameron Dozier had 13 (11 in the first half), Eric Nottage added 12 and Dirk Williams tossed in 11.

Tallahassee led 39-36 at the half.

The Eagles will close the 2013-14 season on Tuesday at home by hosting Chipola College on Sophomore Night.
