Nationally ranked: Tallahassee men open the season at No. 23

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 29, 2013) – Tallahassee Community College’s men’s basketball team earned a No. 23 ranking when the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) released its Division I Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll on Monday.

The ranking is Tallahassee’s first in the NJCAA poll since December 7, 2010, when the Eagles were, ironically, ranked 23rd

Tallahassee is one of three Panhandle Conference schools in the preseason Top 25 – Chipola College is No. 7 while Northwest Florida State is ranked tenth.

A fourth school from Region 8 (Florida), defending NJCAA champion College of Central Florida, opens as the preseason No. 1 team.

The same four schools sit atop the FCSAA Men’s Basketball Preseason Coaches’ Poll, released on Monday, in the same order – although Tallahassee and Northwest Florida State share the No. 3 ranking.

In addition to Chipola and Northwest Florida State, Tallahassee’s 2013-14 schedule features two other schools ranked in the preseason poll – No. 11 East Mississippi Community College and No. 24 Southwest Tennessee Community College.

Tallahassee opens the 2013-14 season at 4:30 p.m. eastern Friday against Lurleen B. Wallace (Ala.) Community College. The game will take place at Northwest Florida State in Niceville, Fla., as part of the Quality Inn Classic.
